On a Chromebook, we've developed two different ways to lock the device. You can choose either one when the student uses a Chromebook. What they have in common is that both require a Chrome Upgrade license.
1. Installation of the Kiosk app
Log in to the “Administrator console” for your Google Workspace for Education domain and choose “Device Management”.
In the menu to the left, choose which organization you want to install the app to, and klick “Kiosks” at the top.
NOTE: Keep in mind that the application is installed on the Chromebooks tied to the organization, not on the user accounts in the organization.
Click “Add” and choose “Add from Chrome Web Store”.
Search for the app you’d like to deploy and click “Select”.
Chrome Web Store
If prompted, accept the app permissions on behalf of your organization.
2. Install and use a Chrome Extension (ChromEx Agent)
With the ChromEx Agent extension, we can control most of Chrome OS, but some settings will need to be made in your domain to ensure security with ChromEx Agent.
- Policy: Multiple sign-in access
Set this to: Block multiple sign-in access for users in this organization
- Policy: Developer tools
Set this to: Never allow use of built-in developer tool
- Policy: Incognito mode (Optional)*
Set this to: Never allow incognito
* (Optional) Use ChromEx Agent with Incognito mode allowed
If you want students to have access to Incognito mode on their Chromebooks, check the box in your cost center.
When the students starts their exam, they will be met by the word HELP instead of the button OPEN.
- Policy: Android applications on Chrome Devices
We are unable to block Android applications for now. It is up to you to choose what applications to be allowed
Install the ChromEx agent extension for students
- To install the new ChromEx Agent extension go to “Device management > Chrome” and choose “Apps and extensions”.
- Choose the OU where you have placed your students
Click the yellow + and choose # and copy/paste our Chrome Web Store ID: bcfphnbeddegigffmilnjfddmjcpacol
- Choose force install
- Allow all permissions
Before you can start using ChromEx Agent with your students, you need to contact email@example.com to have your cost center or domain whitelisted for ChromEx Agent.
Next step -> Prepare the student device: Windows
