Chromebook (Kiosk app and ChromEx Agent)
This option is for students who have Chromebooks to take the exam on. The kiosk app is located on the sign in page on their Chromebook.
If you have chosen to join our beta for ChromEx Agent, the students have received an add-on installed by your administrator. There should be an icon on the student's computer that indicates this:
To start the exam, students simply go to https://student.chromex.io. When the exam is opened, the extension will lock down their device.
To allow students to use the iPad when writing exams in ChromEx, the teacher needs to allow submissions using the ChromEx app for iPad when creating the exam. Students only need to install and open the app when writing exams with their iPad.
NOTE! The app will remember the password of all users who have logged in until they clear the history and website data for Safari in settings.
Mac OS X and Windows (Safe Exam Browser)
Safe Exam Browser is needed to securely write tests with ChromEx on Windows and Mac OS devices.
Note that SEB should NOT be used on a Chromebook (Chrome OS).
Safe Exam Browser is specially developed for writing exams on MAC or PC in lock down mode. Safe Exam Browser is downloaded here and should be installed on students' devices before using ChromEx with Windows and MAC OS.
As Safe Exam Browser is the program that ensures that students' computers are locked down on Windows and MAC OS, it is important that students install and test Safe Exam Browser before a test session with ChromEx starts.
Once students have installed Safe Exam Browser on their computers, they should use the link https://chromex.io/seb to open ChromEx in Safe Exam Browser.
The link, https://chromex.io/seb must first be opened in Chrome. The link takes students on to the Safe Exam Browser. The students should therefore not open the link in SEB but in their regular browser (Chrome).
